Vitché

Born in 1969 in São Paulo. Lives and works in São Paulo.
Vitché began to write in the streets of São Paulo in the early 1980s. Defining his approach as political, lyrical, and abstract, he strives—through his work—to bring out emotions that he feels are stifled by life in today’s megacities, or “great dragons” as he describes them. Vitché creates paintings with a simple but powerful imagery, drawing much of his inspiration from Aztec and indigenous cultures as well as from the potent but playful symbolism of the circus. He also creates objects from wood he finds in the streets and uses materials as diverse as mud, canvas or metal in his installations. In addition to his work in the streets and the galleries, he has begun to explore the realms of set design and illustration.
