Nug
Born in Stockholm. Lives and works in Stockholm.
Considered to be one of the most prolific artists in the Scandinavian graffiti scene, Nug first began as part of the collective VIM (Vandals in Motion) founded by News and Akay at the end of the 1980s. Though he has painted on all types of surfaces (floors, walls, trees, canvas…), he is most well-known for his work on trains and is considered by his peers as one of the first Swedish writers to have practiced the backjump. Nug has also realized several short video pieces that emphasize the physical, performative aspects of graffiti writing. Territorial Pissing, a video he realized in 2008 for his MFA degree project at the University of Konsfack, features a man clad in black spray-painting the inside of a subway car. When it was presented in an art show the following year, it caused a great deal of public controversy, leading to a police investigation of the artist.
