DTagno
Lives and works in Berlin.
The German artist DTagno first began using the urban environment for his public writings in 1988. Initially, he devoted himself to creating tags and throw-ups (short identifiers written in relatively simple and legible characters). Gradually, he focused more on the lettering, thus freeing the shapes from their meaning. By manipulating words within their formal dimension, he has managed to explore the nuances to their full aesthetic and emotional extent. The text becomes the image, or as DTagno says, “I draw letters and write figures”. His lettering is always composed of a single continuous, intricate line that gives rise to a personal choreography as the artist moves along with the convolutions of the line, allying the body with the word.
