Basco Vazco

Born in 1983 in Santiago (Chile).
Lives and works in Santiago.

Following his discovery of New York-style graffiti as well as the figurative murals that cover the walls of Santiago, Basco Vazko began painting in the streets at the age of 14. Using a roller with latex paint—a technique frequently used by South American graffiti painters—he developed a unique style that quickly attracted public attention. His work depicts scarred or tattooed figures in contorted positions, focusing on the body as an architectural or mechanical structure. Strongly influenced by major South American street artists such as Os Gêmeos and Vitché, Basco Vazko draws inspiration from sources as diverse as the paintings of Picasso, De Kooning, Joan Miró, Chilean political murals, and the post-punk movement. He also practices in the studio, exploring other media such as painting on paper or canvas.
