Rinko Kawauchi, Cui Cui
2005
Born in 1972, Rinko Kawauchi is one of the most prominent photographers in contemporary Japan. She loves to capture the details of daily life that often escape us: through her gaze, ordinary objects and situations acquire a singularity that brings out their beauty, poetry and emotion. In her books and exhibitions she groups her images so as to reveal unexpected meetings of forms, moods, and atmospheres, creating subtle tales that encourage meditation on the marvelous infinity of the world and finiteness of all beings.
Cui Cui, the catalog published alongside the exhibition presented at the Fondation Cartier in March 2005, is an intimate exploration of the theme of the family through 232 color photographs. The title evokes the twitter of sparrows, a metaphor for the family ties and minute events that accompany each of our lives and mark the way time flies.
